Part 6 - Loughborough Central station, and to the south

The northbound distant signal and the water tower at Loughborough can be seen in this view of 45198 leaving the station on an evening semi-fast to Nottingham.   45198

Typical of the last few months of operation, a filthy Black 5 drifts into Loughborough Central with a local train. The foreground shows the down goods loop lifted; the old goods yard had been sold by this time for development.

The station building looks much as it does today at the headquarters of the "new" Great Central Railway.

The photos above show the south side of Loughborough station in May / June 1966. Note the position of the water tower and gap on the east side where the Ladybird Books building was built in 1970.
